Welcome to our September issue. We have three articles on artists. Anna Leung writes of a major Miró retrospective, a show that recently closed at the Tate Modern in London. Miró: The Ladder of Escape will travel to the Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona, Spain where it will be seen in October 2011, before continuing on to the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D. C. in May 2012. I must admit I have always been a big fan of Miró. His early painting The Farm is one of my favorites for its sheer inventiveness. I relish even just the multicolor ground on which the composition rests. I feel Miró has been a bit under appreciated and it is my hope that this exhibition and Anna’s analysis propel him into the limelight he deserves.

Jane Freilicher, the subject of my article, is a jewel, and I appreciate so much having had the opportunity to meet her and look at her work. To work for 60 years or more as an artist is a feat, but for her, it is just what she does. She is a very lucky lady to be able to live such a life in painting.

Andy Warhol is the star of Robert Stalker's essay. Through his discussion of the exhibition Warhol Live, Robert draws attention to Warhol's relationships to contemporary music and dance, aspects of his work that are usually not fully recognized. It is important to understand Warhol as the the complete artist he was, and how many people he worked with and influenced.

On another note, TAS will be having a party and art sale on October 21 and 22; please save the date. It will be a private view at the home of architect and TAS writer George Hornbein. There will be a preview the weekend before by appointment for those who would like first choice in purchasing the art. Just contact me at theartsection@gmail.com.
